
Exchange of information and knowledge is the essence of growth in any discipline of work. CFI endeavors to provide a platform for exchange of ideas and information in order to extend the scope of work in the field of cancer. CFI strongly believes in promotion and development of knowledge base in cancer by organising meetings, conferences and symposia. The scope of these meetings is to disseminate information about research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer and also promote the quest for knowledge in young scientists.


Symposium on “Cervical Cancer Control in India”
As part of its Foundation day programme CFI organized a Symposium to create a platform for discussing the strategies for Cervical cancer control in India. The objective of the one-day Symposium was to sensitize and motivate health providers, representatives of industries to work together towards cervical prevention in India. The key note address at this Symposium will be delivered by Prof. zur Hausen, Nobel laureate in Medicine, 2008. The session will be attended by eminent researchers and clinicians working for cervical cancer control in India including Dr. R. Sankaranarayanan from IARC (WHO), Lyon, France. A panel discussion on Cervical Cancer Prevention strategies will conclude the day-long symposium. An added attraction will be a scientific Poster competition of young research scholars to inculcate in them a spirit of creative scientific studies.

Seminar On Life-style & Environment related Cancers in India and their Prevention
The grand one-day Scientific Seminar highlighted the increasing incidence of life-style and environmentally disposed cancers in India and their possible causes. The speakers also suggested the measures needed for their prevention. The Seminar also dealt with the adverse health effects of increasing air pollution in metropolitan towns, with particular reference to its role in elevating the incidence of pulmonary cancers. This was the first scientific meeting organized by CFI where the speakers were Dr. K T Bhowmik, Safdarjung Hospital New Delhi; Dr. P.C. Gupta, TIFR, Mumbai, Dr. Qamar Rahman, ITRC, Lucknow; Dr.R.K. Bhattacharya, Kolkata, Dr. P.S. Basu of CNCI, and Dr. Manas Roy of R.K. Mission Hospital, Kolkata. Prof. Anjali Mookerjee, former Dean of Environmental Sciences, JNU, New Delhi, Dr. Saroj Gupta, Director, CCWH, Thakurpukur, Kolkata and Prof. M. Siddiqi, Director Bose Institute and Chairman, CFI chaired the scientific sessions.
