Cancer Foundation of India is structured as a knowledge-based organization generating cancer related scientific information through focused R&D projects in cancer prevention and other disciplines of cancer control. It is envisioned to employ the required data in augmenting Cancer Public Health programmes in India. In addition, the foundation disseminates authentic and useful information through innovative methods to educate and enlighten people on cancer risk factors and how to minimise the risk of disease. CFI organizes training courses and workshops for human resource development for cancer control and provides a forum to oncologists, researchers and public health providers for the exchange of information on cancer by holding interactive meetings, conferences, symposia. The direct service component of CFI is well reinforced by a continuing free cancer screening programme in rural and urban areas of West Bengal and North eastern India. There is an ongoing unique breast cancer education programme for young women in educational institutions in Kolkata. The CFI also provides clinical advisory service to cancer survivors during and after clinical treatment, and is currently involved in developing a Survivors Support Centre in Kolkata for post-treatment support to cancer survivors. In addition to its own funded projects and programmes, CFI has also entered into collaborative agreements with several Academic, Medical Research and Treatment institutions in India and abroad. The Foundation has its own Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) and Research advisory committee which ensure strict adherence to ethical norms and maintenance of quality control for all its projects and activities.
